The Heart of Our Work

Because meaningful change begins with shared values and connection.

Integrity. Connection. Equity.

    About Us

    Tēnei te pō, nau mai te ao.
    This is the night, welcome the light.

    The name Kaiatarau comes from ātarau – shade, shadow or dim light. It reflects the spaces where transformation begins: quiet, uncertain, full of possibility. A kaiātarau walks alongside others in these moments – holding space for reflection, courage and growth.

    We believe change begins in the places most people avoid – the complexity, the unknown. Whether you’re navigating personal challenges, professional crossroads or organisational change, we walk with you – bringing clarity, care and integrity to every step.

    Our Why

    We’ve seen what happens when good people aren’t supported: burnout, fractured teams, lost potential. When staff are overlooked, organisations suffer. When leaders aren’t resourced, everyone feels it.

    We believe there is a better way. When individuals are equipped, teams thrive, and communities benefit. That’s why we exist – to enable deep, sustainable change.

    Our Mission

    To strengthen people and communities by bringing psychological depth, leadership insight and cultural integrity into every level of change.

    Our Approach

    Every engagement starts with listening. We understand context and respond with solutions that are practical and meaningful. Our work blends psychological insight, strategic clarity and cultural responsiveness – grounded in integrity, equity and respect. Real change is both systemic and deeply human.

    About Kim

    I’m Kim Laurence, founder of Kaiatarau Collective. I’m a psychotherapist by training, with experience spanning frontline mental health services,  clinical leadership and system transformation – work that has shown me that wellbeing and performance are inseparable.

    I whakapapa Māori and Pākehā, and my reconnection to te ao Māori is an ongoing journey. It also inspires me to create spaces where people of all cultures and backgrounds can (re)connect, learn and show up as they are.

    Courage and curiosity shape who I am. I’ve lived abroad and travelled extensively, which deepened my appreciation for culture, diversity and the many ways people make sense of the world. When I’m not working, you’ll find me exploring new places or enjoying a quiet moment with good coffee and conversation.

    Mā te whakarongo, ka mōhio;
    mā te mōhio, ka mārama;
    mā te mārama, ka matau;
    mā te matau, ka ora.

    Through listening comes knowledge;
    from knowledge comes understanding;
    from understanding comes wisdom;
    from wisdom comes wellbeing.
